Skoda's mid-size SUV spotted in India: Details here
Skoda is all set to unveil an Indian variant of its mid-size SUV, the Kamiq, at the 2020 Auto Expo, according to Autocar. The report notes that the company will showcase a Kamiq-derived concept in February and launch the production model in 2021. Meanwhile, a Europe-specific Kamiq has been spotted testing in India, revealing some of its design and interior features. Here's our roundup.
Skoda Kamiq: At a glance
According to the report, India-bound Kamiq will be built on Volkswagen's 'MQB A0 IN' platform. This architecture offers a longer wheelbase which helps provide more space in the rear section. Further, going by the spy shots of the test model, the Indian variant will feature a premium sporty design with a blacked-out grille trapezoidal air-intakes, electronically-adjustable ORVMs, all-LED lighting setup, and some chrome garnishing.
Inside the cabin
The India-bound Kamiq model will also feature a five-seater cabin with a three-spoke multifunctional steering wheel and an 8-inch fully-digital infotainment unit, according to the interiors of the test model. It is also tipped to offer features such as adjustable rear seats with reclinable backrests, a panoramic sunroof, and push-button start function. Moreover, connected car features and cruise control are also on the cards.
Power and performance
In the international markets, the Skoda Kamiq is offered in petrol, diesel, and CNG engine options. However, according to the report, the Czech automaker will only bring petrol and CNG models in India. Further, the car will be offered in both manual or automatic transmission options.
And, what about pricing and availability?
Skoda has partnered with the Volkswagen Group to launch this unnamed Kamiq-derived mid-size SUV in India sometime in 2021. The upcoming car is likely to come in the mid-premium category and take on the likes of MG Hector, Kia Seltos, and Hyundai Creta.
