This all-electric concept SUV by Renault can change shapes
Renault has unveiled the all-electric Morphoz SUV - a shape-shifting concept model that is designed to serve both as a city car and a long-range cruiser. It is based on a flexible CMF-EV platform that allows the car to change its shape by making adjustments in the wheelbase and length to provide more interior space. Here's all you need to know.
Renault Morphoz: At a glance
The Morphoz features a CMF-EV skateboard chassis that pushes the wheels to the corners, and special extensions stretch the SUV at the A-pillar and rear. This setup allows the length to increase from 4,400mm to 4,800mm and the wheelbase from 2,730mm to 2,930mm. Further, the sleek LED lights, sportier alloys, metallic paint job, and SUV-Coupe styling give it a truly futuristic look.
Inside the cabin
The jaw-dropping exteriors are matched with bold and hi-tech interiors. Inside the cabin, the traditional controls can be hidden away using a folding panel. The dashboard is largely covered by an L-shaped screen that serves as an infotainment unit. The steering wheel also has a built-in 10.2-inch screen that works as a control panel. As for driving, the Morphoz offers three levels of autonomous driving.
Under the hood
The Renault Morphoz uses a single motor and a 40kWh battery to offer a range of around 400km in the City mode. For longer journeys, you can switch to Travel mode wherein an additional 50kWh battery can be installed, thanks to the adaptable architecture. The combined 90kWh capacity extends the range to around 700km, making it suitable for long journeys.
Pricing and availability
Since the Morphoz is a concept model, Renault has not announced any price tag. However, the automaker intends to launch it as an urban family car sometime in 2027.
