Range Rover previews its first all-electric SUV
The electric prototype of Range Rover, currently in its final testing phase, is set to make its global debut later this year. Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) unveiled the prototype without any camouflage to "underline the build quality of the initial prototypes." The Range Rover Electric has undergone rigorous component and virtual tests over the past year, including trials in the Arctic Circle.
The electric prototype looks similar to the fuel-powered Range Rover
The electric prototype bears a striking resemblance to the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) Range Rover that has been on sale since 2022. The development program is currently focusing on its gearbox, electric motors, and electronics performance under extreme conditions. Although specific technical details have not been disclosed yet, it has been confirmed that the vehicle will use an 800V charging architecture and is likely to adopt a dual-motor system for improved four-wheel-drive capability.
JLR has already initiated a waiting list for the SUV
JLR has already initiated a global waiting list for the electric SUV, indicating strong market anticipation. Since its opening in December of last year, over 16,000 expressions of interest have been recorded by February. The vehicle is expected to be available in various markets worldwide, including India. The Range Rover Electric will be produced in Solihull, UK, alongside existing mild-hybrid and PHEV versions.
