Porsche to launch electric Cayenne SUV by end of 2025
What's the story
Porsche has confirmed that its electric Cayenne SUV will be launched in late 2025.
The announcement was made by CEO Oliver Blume during a recent Q&A session.
The fourth-generation model will be fully electric while the current Cayenne will continue to use combustion engines.
Both versions of the luxury SUV will be produced at Porsche's Bratislava factory in Slovakia.
Strategy shift
Strategy for Cayenne and Macan EVs
Porsche has also clarified its strategy for the Cayenne and Macan EVs.
The company plans to continue producing the petrol-powered Cayenne into the 2030s, equipped with V8 engines.
This decision stands in contrast to the fate of the smaller Macan, which is set to be discontinued next year.
Porsche is also contemplating a new petrol-backed SUV as a potential replacement for the first-generation Macan.
Update
Porsche's plans for the 718 electric sports cars
Porsche had initially planned to launch the electric Boxster/Cayman ahead of the Cayenne EV. However, now the company has prioritized the large SUV, delaying the sports car duo.
"Following on from the all-electric Cayenne, Porsche will introduce the all-electric sports cars in the 718 segment," a company spokesperson said.
The spokesperson also confirmed that while there's a change in order for new models, there's no delay for the 718 EV's release scheduled for mid-decade.
Future lineup
Future lineup and production plans
Porsche's future lineup will also include an even bigger electric SUV.
This three-row flagship model will be produced in Leipzig and is expected to be offered with electric power.
However, there's no guarantee for ICE versions as CFO Lutz Meschke said last November, "We are currently looking at the possibility of the originally planned all-electric vehicles having a hybrid drive or a combustion engine."
