Polestar O2 concept car, with built-in autonomous drone, goes official
Volvo-owned Polestar has unveiled its O2 concept roadster car. It should enter production in the future. As for the highlights, the four-wheeler has a futuristic design and is fueled by an electric powertrain. It also has a luxurious cabin made of sustainable materials and packs an autonomous cinematic drone that can follow the vehicle at speeds of up to 90km/h.
Why does this story matter?
Polestar O2 concept is built on an adapted version of the aluminium architecture that will underpin the upcoming Polestar 5. The brand claims that it offers body stiffness of "supercar levels." If the four-wheeler will enter production, its good looks and features will enthrall a lot of customers. It will raise the competition in the luxury EV segment and will rival the Tesla Roadster.
The car has a retracting hard roof and 22-inch wheels
The Polestar O2 concept draws styling cues from the Precept concept and has a retracting hard roof, a lengthy sculpted bonnet, swept-back L-shaped headlights, and a prominent front splitter. On the sides, it is flanked by two doors, cameras instead of ORVMs, side-steppers, and 22-inch wheels. A full-width light bar and "Polestar" lettering grace the rear end of the four-wheeler.
It runs on a Polestar 5-sourced electric powertrain
The Polestar O2 concept draws power from an electric powertrain that will debut on the Polestar 5 sports saloon. However, its specifications and power figures will be revealed at a later date.
The roadster has 4 seats and a flat-bottom steering wheel
Polestar O2 concept has a luxurious 4-seater cabin made of recycled polyester and features recycled aluminium shells and a flat-bottom multifunctional steering wheel. It houses a digital instrument cluster and a vertically-positioned touchscreen infotainment console. The car also packs an autonomous cinematic drone which can be deployed during movement to record driving sequences. It can follow the four-wheeler at speeds of up to 90km/h.
What about its availability?
The Polestar O2 is a concept vehicle and might head to production after 2025. If it does not, its design elements and features should make their way to another model from the company in the future.
