Pininfarina and Morgan debut exclusive Midsummer speedster: Check features
Morgan Motor Company and Pininfarina have jointly unveiled a new two-seat sports car named the Midsummer. The vehicle, based on Morgan's Plus Six model, boasts a hand-crafted body designed collaboratively by both automakers' teams. The Midsummer is a tribute to the combined two centuries of coach-building expertise of these two companies. Named after Midsummer Hill, this exclusive car pays homage to the scenic Malvern Hills that overlook Morgan's historic Pickersleigh Road factory.
Cost and performance
The production of the Midsummer will be limited to just 50 units, all of which have been sold to loyal customers. Each unit is priced at around £200,000 (about ₹2.11 crore), depending on individual specifications. The car is powered by a BMW-supplied 340hp straight-six engine. With a top speed of 267km/h and acceleration from 0-100km/h in just 4.2 seconds, it's expected to match its performance credentials with its exclusive design.
Production and design details
The production process for these exclusive cars will run through Morgan's existing process for its Plus vehicles, with completion expected in early 2025. CEO Massimo Fumarola stated that despite the small collection, it emphasizes the company's desire to create a series of limited-run specials. The car carries a unique 'Pininfarina Fuoriserie' badge indicating its distinct design. Notably, laminated teak moldings around the cockpit give the car a unique character and a new exterior profile.
A unique blend of tradition and innovation
The Midsummer replaces the Morgan flat windscreen with a pair of lower, and more subtle aero screens. The fascia and instruments bear resemblance to the original Morgan design, but with several intricate details added. The headlights are larger and incorporate both indicators and DRLs, while the rear lights are simplified. An aero-cheating shroud features on the radiator, reminiscent of past Morgan racing cars. These changes reflect an evolution in design while maintaining respect for tradition.
