Porsche rolls out one-off 993 Speedster for an Italian collector
Porsche has unveiled a unique 993 Speedster at the Monterey Car Week, marking its first one-off restoration under the Sonderwunsch department. The Sonderwunsch program, which translates to "special wishes," allows select customers to collaborate with Porsche on bespoke projects. The new car, based on a 993 Carrera Cabriolet, was specially commissioned by an Italian collector named Luca Trazzi.
A look at the design
Trazzi played a significant role in designing the car alongside the team at Porsche Sonderwunsch. The one-off 993 Speedster has a unique cut-down windshield and rear decklid. It also flaunts retro-styled mirrors, black 18-inch Turbo twist wheels with body-colored pinstriping, yellow-and-black checkered-flag trim on the seats, and headlamps with the four-dot running light design from modern Porsche models.
Unique features and performance
The unique 993 Speedster incorporates trim pieces like a front spoiler, side skirts, and rear quarter panels inspired by those on 993 Turbo. A shark-fin rock protector ahead of the rear wheels pays tribute to the original 911 Speedster from 1989. The vehicle's running gear, including chassis, engine, and brakes all come from the 993 Carrera RS. The vehicle's power is derived from a robust 3.8-liter flat-six engine that delivers an impressive output of up to 300hp.
Trazzi's involvement in the car's construction
During the construction of the car, Porsche allowed Trazzi to witness the bare bodyshell being galvanized and even participate in some of the painting process. This unique 993 Speedster is being displayed at Monterey Car Week before returning to Europe for Trazzi's final delivery. The Sonderwunsch department has been operational for many years, customizing production models and building special one-offs. However, this project marks their first one-off restoration for a private customer.
