Ola S1 production stopped; to be resumed in late 2022
Ola Electric has halted the production of its S1 scooter in India, noting that the manufacturing will restart in late 2022. As per the company, priority will be given to the S1 Pro model as most people have opted for it. Those who have booked S1 can upgrade to S1 Pro via the Ola app when the final payment window opens on January 21.
Why does this story matter?
The Ola S1 and S1 Pro are marred with production delays resulting in delayed deliveries. Now, buyers of the S1 will have to wait for an additional 9-11 months to get their hands on one. Buyers are also complaining that they are being forced to upgrade to the Pro model by spending an extra Rs. 30,000. Not everyone has the means to do so.
The scooters offer full-LED illumination and 12-inch wheels
Ola S1 and S1 Pro are built on a tubular frame and flaunt an indicator-mounted front apron, a single-piece seat, a flat footboard, and a smiley-shaped headlamp. They pack a Bluetooth-enabled 7.0-inch digital instrument cluster with Wi-Fi connectivity and a full-LED setup for lighting. The scooters ride on 12-inch aluminium alloy wheels and are offered in up to 10 shades.
They deliver a range of up to 181km per charge
Ola S1 and S1 Pro pack an 8.5kW electric motor, linked to a 2.98kWh and 3.97kWh battery, respectively. The S1 hits a top-speed of 90km/h and promises a range of 121km. Meanwhile, the Pro model attains a top-speed of 115km/h and delivers 181km of range.
They have a single front fork
In terms of safety equipment, the Ola S1 and S1 Pro are equipped with disc brakes on both the front and rear wheels, along with a combined braking system (CBS) for better handling on the roads. The suspension duties on the electric scooters are taken care of by a single fork on the front side and a mono-shock unit on the rear end.
Ola S1 and S1 Pro: Pricing and availability
In India, the Ola S1 and S1 Pro are priced at Rs. 99,999 and Rs. 1.3 lakh, respectively (both prices, ex-showroom). The electric scooters will be dispatched starting this month and through February.
