Ola launches Gen 3 EVs with up to 320km range
What's the story
Ola Electric has launched its new Gen 3 electric scooter range. The new lineup features the S1 Pro, S1 Pro+, and the more affordable S1 X and S1 X+.
All these models come with Ola's new 'MoveOS 5,' a dedicated EV operating system to improve user experience.
The company's CEO, Bhavish Aggarwal, unveiled these models today. The S1 Pro+ is the new flagship model, boasting a range of 320km, a 141km/h top speed, and improved acceleration time.
Specifications
Gen 3 scooters: A look at the battery and performance
The S1 Pro model comes in two variants - one with a 3kWh battery and the other with a 4kWh battery.
The Pro+ variant comes with either a 4kWh or a bigger 5.3kWh battery pack feature the company's in-house Bharat Cell.
The base mode, S1 X, is offered with three battery pack options: 2kWh, 3kWh, and 4kWh. The S1 X+ comes with a single 4kWh battery option.
Technological innovation
Ola's patented technology boosts scooter range and efficiency
The Gen 3 scooters come with Ola's patented 'Brake by Wire' technology.
This system employs a sensor on the brake lever to balance brake pad use and motor resistance, giving you a 15% increase in range and doubling the brake pad life.
The electric motor also regenerates electricity from braking action, further improving the scooter's efficiency.
Design upgrades
Gen 3 scooters feature mid-drive motor and integrated MCU
Unlike their predecessors which relied on hub motors, the new Gen 3 scooters come with a mid-drive motor and an integrated Motor Control Unit (MCU).
Aggarwal says this design is five times more efficient, reliable, and lightweight.
Notably, these models also have chain drive with pre-lubricated O-rings instead of the belt drive seen in previous generations.
Expansion
Ola Electric expands presence with 4,000 stores across India
Ola Electric has also grown exponentially in India, opening 4,000 stores and service centers across the country by December 2024.
This is a major increase from just about 800 in November 2024.
Aggarwal also disclosed that Ola Electric now commands a whopping 25% market share in the Indian market.
