Ola Electric launches its first-ever e-motorcycle at ₹75,000
Ola Electric has made a significant stride in the electric two-wheeler market with the launch of its first e-motorcycle series, 'Roadster.' The lineup includes three variants: Roadster X, Roadster, and Roadster Pro. The range starts at ₹74,999 for the base 2.5kWh variant of the Roadster X. The Roadster Pro will be available in two variants: an 8kWh model priced at ₹1.99 lakh and a more powerful 16kWh version costing ₹2.49 lakh. Deliveries are expected to begin by Diwali this year.
Pro model boasts a range of 579km
The Roadster Pro e-motorcycle boasts a 0-40 km/h acceleration time of just 1.2 seconds. It has a street naked design, in line with the last year's concept model. The bike is claimed to have a top speed of 194 km/h and will deliver an impressive range of 579 km on a single charge. It also comes equipped with ADAS safety features and a massive 10-inch touchscreen.
Ola Electric's journey and market position
Bhavish Aggarwal, the Chairman and Managing Director of Ola Electric, highlighted the company's rapid growth during the launch event. He stated that what started as a dream three years ago has now become India's leading EV firm and the world's largest two-wheeler EV manufacturer. According to a Redseer report, Ola Electric has outperformed its competitors in terms of revenue generation within India's e-two-wheeler space.
Ola Electric's innovative battery technology: BharatCell
Aggarwal also announced the development of a new battery technology known as the 'BharatCell,' which is set to be India's first domestically produced cell. This innovative 4680 cell, for which over 70 patents have been filed, is expected to be integrated into Ola scooters by Q1 FY26. Aggarwal described manufacturing this cell in India as "the holy grail for the EV industry."
Ola Electric's market strategy and financial performance
Despite e-motorcycles currently accounting for a small portion of overall bike sales in India, Ola Electric is determined to disrupt the market with its new product. This strategic move follows reports last month that the company had put plans for an e-car on hold to concentrate on bikes and scooters. On August 14, Ola Electric reported a consolidated net loss of ₹347 crore (30% higher YoY) for Q1 FY25. Its revenue stood at ₹1,644 crore, marking a 32.3% YoY increase.
