Mahindra Thar 5-door spy shots reveal updated grille, circular DRLs
Mahindra's upcoming Thar 5-door SUV has been spotted during road tests, revealing some of its design features. Sporting LED headlamps and circular LED daytime running lights (DRLs) reminiscent of the Mercedes-Benz G-Wagon, this upgrade is expected to boost the vehicle's visual appeal and illumination. Following the success of its second-generation model and the more budget-friendly 2WD version released earlier this year, the 5-door Thar is set to hit the market in early 2024.
It will be slightly longer than the 3-door model
Besides the enhanced lighting, the Mahindra Thar 5-door will feature a fresh grille pattern, replacing six vertical slats found on the current model. New color options may also be available for the SUV. While most design aspects will remain similar to the existing Thar, the 5-door version will be longer. With factory-installed G-Wagon style lighting, Thar owners won't need to spend extra on aftermarket units, which can range from Rs. 4,000-30,000 depending on the brand and type.
Interior upgrades and additional features
Recent sightings of test mules indicate a larger touchscreen, possibly a 10.25-inch unit, which could be offered with top-spec variants. Along with an increase in screen size, Mahindra may introduce enhancements in graphics and user interface. As the 5-door Thar closely resembles a standard SUV, it might also feature a single-pane sunroof for higher-spec variants. Additional features like front and rear center armrests are expected to be included as well.
Engine options and transmission choices may remain unchanged
The Mahindra Thar 5-door is likely to offer the same engine options as its predecessor: a 2.0-liter petrol and a 2.2-liter diesel. However, the state of tune for both engines may vary. Transmission choices will remain unchanged, with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter automatic. It remains to be seen if Mahindra will offer the 1.5-liter diesel engine with this model.
