Mahindra Thar records impressive 59,000 open bookings in May 2024
Indian automaker Mahindra, continues to witness a surge in demand for its products, with plans to ramp up production. The company recently increased the production of the XUV700 model, resulting in a significant decrease in open booking numbers. However, the Thar - Mahindra's lifestyle SUV - boasts an impressive open order book of 59,000 units as of May 2024. This figure represents a substantial chunk of the brand's total order book of 2.2 lakh units during the same period.
Thar continues to attract fresh bookings each month
The Thar model continues to draw around 7,000 fresh bookings each month, demonstrating its sustained popularity among consumers. However, these high open booking numbers could potentially pose challenges for Mahindra. The automaker is gearing up to launch a five-door version of this car in the upcoming months. This new model is anticipated to be even more successful than its three-door counterpart.
A look at the rivals and pricing
The Mahindra Thar takes on several rivals in the Indian market. They include models such as the Hyundai Creta, Volkswagen Taigun, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, and SKODA Kushaq. It also takes on the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Here, the Thar starts at ₹11.35 lakh and goes up to ₹17.6 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom).
