Mitsubishi D:X goes official as a rugged minivan concept
At the recent Japan Mobility Show held in Tokyo, Mitsubishi unveiled the D:X concept. It is a high-riding family transporter with all-terrain tires and likely offers a sneak peek at the upcoming next-generation Delica. This six-seater minivan will cater to adventure enthusiasts, blending off-road features like elevated suspension and all-wheel drive with minivan characteristics such as sliding doors and an almost flat roof.
The D:X concept is loosely based on the Delica minivan
The Mitsubishi D:X concept sports shorter overhangs compared to the existing Delica, along with robust body cladding around the wheel arches and bumpers, skid plates at the front and rear, and side steps. The copper-colored minivan is equipped with T-shaped lights on both ends and a roof box for additional storage. Inside, the cabin boasts reclining seats covered in premium tan-colored leather upholstery, with the front seats capable of rotating 180 degrees. Moreover, each headrest houses Yamaha speakers.
It will draw power from a plug-in hybrid system
The D:X concept offers exceptional visibility for the driver, courtesy of a front camera that transmits footage to a large screen mounted on the dashboard, creating the impression of an extended windshield. Small screens integrated into the A-pillars function as digital rear-view mirrors. Although Mitsubishi has not disclosed further information about the plug-in hybrid system, the all-wheel-drive aspect is consistent with the full-size Delica's longstanding AWD tradition.
