Mercedes-Benz may soon discontinue GLC and GLE coupes: Here's why
What's the story
Mercedes-Benz is reportedly considering discontinuing the GLC coupe and the larger GLE coupe, as part of its ongoing model consolidation strategy.
These two combustion-engine-powered coupe-SUVs are believed to be at the forefront of models that could be phased out.
This move aligns with Mercedes-Benz's transition toward a fully electric vehicle (EV) lineup.
According to Autocar, a source from Mercedes's headquarters in Stuttgart, Germany, has confirmed that "Every current model is under review. It is a continuous process."
Strategy details
Model consolidation strategy
Mercedes-Benz has already phased out several combustion-engine vehicles from its lineup in recent years.
These include the C-Class coupe, E-Class coupe, S-Class coupe, CLS, and X-Class pick-up.
The company's original plans also included discontinuing the A-Class hatchback and B-Class MPV by the end of 2024.
However, these models have been granted a reprieve until 2026 when they are expected to be permanently retired from Mercedes-Benz's lineup.

Future plans for its lineup
Later this year, Mercedes-Benz plans to unveil the first of four models based on its new MMA platform, the third-generation CLA saloon.
The new four-door model, to be offered in both pure-electric and combustion-engine forms, will be joined in 2025 by successor models to the CLA Shooting Brake, EQA and EQB.
This indicates that while Mercedes-Benz is considering discontinuing some of its existing models, it is also actively planning for the introduction of new ones.
