What's the story

Taking on rivals like Jaguar, Audi, and BMW, Mercedes-Benz is all set to launch a new all-electric model next year. According to the company's CEO, Ola Källenius, an entry-level EQA SUV will be introduced in the global markets in 2020. Notably, this model will be part of a 10-car EQ line-up that will go on sale by 2022. Here are more details.

Styling

The EQA will borrow design cues from the GLA

Mercedes' EQA electric SUV will be based on a dedicated EV platform. However, in terms of styling and proportions, it will borrow some design cues from the gasoline-powered second-generation GLA. Hence, we expect a compact crossover-like stance with sporty design elements including a blacked-out front grille with honeycomb patterns, indicator-mounted ORVMs, sleek headlights, and blacked-out wheel arches as well as side claddings.

Information

Inside the cabin

Meanwhile, nothing concrete is known about the interiors of the EQA. However, considering it will be a Mercedes-Benz offering, the four-or-five seater cabin should offer premium interiors with best-in-class features, latest connectivity options, and enhanced security measures.

Under the hood

Mercedes EQA to offer a range of around 400km

The upcoming Mercedes-Benz EQA will be based on a new electric vehicle platform internally known as the EVA (Electric Vehicle Architecture). The SUV is expected to offer a range of 400km on a single charge and support fast charging, thanks to an 800V electrical system. Further, it could pack dual electric motors to offer a combined power of 272hp and over 500Nm of torque.

Availability

And, it is coming in 2020

The all-electric EQA will be produced at the company's Hambach plant in France, making it the first-ever Mercedes model to be built in the western European country. The car is all set to go on sale internationally next year. For the Indian market, Mercedes is yet to announce its plans of bringing the EQ range.
