2019 LA Motor Show: Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 breaks cover
German automaker Mercedes-Benz has taken the wraps off its performance SUV, the Mercedes-AMG GLE 63, at the ongoing LA motor show. The flagship SUV, offered in two variants: GLE 63 and GLE 63 S, comes mated to a new 48-volt mild-hybrid system called 'EQ Boost' through which it produces extra 22bhp of power and 249Nm of peak torque. Here's our roundup.
First, a look at the car
Both GLE 63 and GLE 63 S models come with an eye-catchy look, featuring a new front bumper with chrome-finished grille, silver-colored skid plates as well as roof rails, and 20-inch alloy wheels as standard. The performance SUV also gets several premium elements such as a quad-exhaust system, chrome garnishing on the tailgate, all-LED lighting setup, and a chrome frame surrounding the windows.
Inside the cabin
Inside, the GLE 63 models feature a five-seater cabin with ventilated seats wrapped in AMG specific Nappa leather, a panoramic sunroof, and a bunch of other elements with AMG badging. The car also houses a fully digital instrument cluster along with a touchscreen infotainment panel. Besides that, it gets safety features like driver and passenger airbags, ABS with EBD, and several driver-assist features.
Power and performance
The GLE 63 variants are powered by AMG 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 engine, paired with a 48V mild hybrid system called 'EQ Boost'. The standard GLE 63 variant churns out 571bhp of maximum power and promises a top speed of 250kmph, while the performance-oriented model produces a massive 611bhp power and can do 0-100kmph in 3.8 seconds with a top-speed of 280kmph.
When will it come to India?
The Mercedes-AMG GLE 63 models are likely to go on sale in United States sometime in mid-2020. However, there is no official word on the launch of the flagship SUV in India as of now.
