Maserati unveils all-electric GranCabrio Folgore convertible
Maserati has introduced its latest innovation, the all-electric GranCabrio Folgore. This sophisticated convertible is one of the few fully electric convertibles currently available. The GranCabrio Folgore is presented as an open-air alternative to the existing Maserati GranTurismo Folgore, sharing many components including the powertrain. The premium EV boasts a peak power of 806hp and a range of up to 448km.
Unique powertrain design of GranCabrio Folgore
The GranCabrio Folgore's powertrain is its centerpiece, housing a T-shaped lithium battery pack strategically located between and behind the passengers. This design maintains the car's traditional proportions, which could have been compromised by a bulky floor-mounted battery common in many electric vehicles. The vehicle utilizes an 83kWh portion of its 92.5kWh battery pack, a strategic move by Maserati to extend the life of the entire battery pack.
Impressive specifications of GranCabrio Folgore
The GranCabrio Folgore is equipped with three radial-flux permanent-magnet motors, each with its silicon carbide inverter. Two motors are positioned at the rear and one at the front. Each motor can generate up to 300kW of power, resulting in a total potential output of 900kW or 1,190hp. However, due to battery constraints, Maserati claims a peak output of 806hp in MaxBoost mode and delivers 740bhp peak power during regular operations.
GranCabrio Folgore's innovative charging and regenerative braking
The GranCabrio Folgore incorporates regenerative braking, allowing the battery pack to absorb up to 400kW for brief periods. Maserati asserts that the battery can be charged from 20 to 80% in just 18 minutes. The vehicle is also equipped with paddles to control the level of regen and a system that advises the driver when to regen and when to coast, optimizing the car's available range.
