Maserati GranCabrio Folgore spotted doing test runs: What to expect?
Italian automaker Maserati is gearing up to unveil the GranCabrio Folgore soon for the global markets. In the latest development, test mules of the EV were spotted doing cold weather runs ahead of its debut, albeit in a camouflaged avatar. However, unlike other carmakers, Maserati has not hidden its iconic Trident logo on the grille of the near-production-ready roadster model.
Why does this story matter?
Legendary carmaker Maserati has been busy revamping its entire lineup to use all-electric powertrains, under the newly-introduced "Folgore" range, in recent years. The carmaker was one of the earliest from Italy to commit to sustainable mobility solutions in the high-performance category. Along with its coupe models, the company is now planning to introduce roadster-style Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) in its global portfolio.
The roadster will get an oval-shaped grille with Trident logo
The upcoming Maserati GranCabrio Folgore will retain the overall design of its ICE-powered sibling. It will flaunt an oval-shaped grille with the signature Trident logo, a sculpted hood, sweptback LED headlights with integrated DRLs, door-mounted ORVMs, flared wheel arches, and designer alloy wheels. The rear end of the roadster will be graced by wrap-around LED taillights and a blacked-out diffuser.
It will feature a minimalist dashboard design and multiple airbags
The interiors of the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore are under wraps. However, we expect the roadster to get a luxurious cabin with a 2+2 seating layout, and feature a minimalist dashboard design, premium upholstery, bucket-type seats, automatic climate control, a multifunctional steering wheel, a digital instrument cluster, and a touchscreen infotainment panel. Passengers' safety should be ensured by multiple airbags and ADAS functions.
It will draw power from an all-electric powertrain
The upcoming Maserati GranCabrio Folgore will likely draw power from a tri-motor setup (one on the front and two at the rear axle) linked to a 92.5kWh T-shaped battery pack from the GranTurismo Folgore model. The setup should deliver a range of up to 338km.
Maserati GranCabrio Folgore: Pricing and availability
The pricing and availability details of the GranCabrio Folgore will be disclosed by Maserati at its launch event, sometime in late 2023. We expect the EV to carry a premium over the ICE-powered model, which starts at Rs. 2.46 crore (ex-showroom) in India. In our opinion, the roadster will make sense on our shores with its elegant design, capable electric powertrain, and luxurious cabin.
