Maruti Suzuki to launch 10 new vehicles by 2030
What's the story
Maruti Suzuki has announced plans to launch more than half a dozen utility vehicles (UVs) in India in the next three years.
The move comes after Tata Motors dethroned Maruti Suzuki as the top car manufacturer in India last year.
The company's portfolio is set to expand with up to 10 new models over the next five years, including upgrades of existing vehicles.
Product lineup
Upcoming SUVs: A diverse range
The upcoming UVs from Maruti Suzuki will cover a wide price range, starting from ₹5 lakh to ₹30 lakh. They will have different powertrains, including petrol, electric, CNG, and hybrid.
The first launch of 2025 will be the eVitara midsize SUV in March, followed by the company's most premium SUV yet - internally known as Y17 - in the second half of the year.
Flagship details
A closer look at Maruti Suzuki's flagship SUV
The Y17, a three-row variant of the Grand Vitara, has been seen testing in India.
The spy shots show a longer wheelbase and rear overhang, probably to make room for an additional row of seats.
The upcoming flagship is tipped to borrow design cues from the eVitara and will take on the likes of Mahindra XUV700 and Tata Safari when launched later this year.
Future launches
Future launches and market strategy
In 2026, Maruti Suzuki intends to launch an electric MPV on the eVitara SUV's architecture (YMC) to challenge the upcoming Kia Carens EV.
Next up will be a base-end SUV, codenamed Y43, taking on Tata Punch and Hyundai Exter.
Two additional sub-compact UVs are in the pipeline for 2027 - a Renault Triber rival internally codenamed YDB, and a small SUV (code: YK9) probably based on Suzuki Hustler.
Market dynamics
Maruti Suzuki's investment and market share in India
Maruti Suzuki has set aside over ₹1 lakh crore for the next decade to fund capacity expansion through new models.
The investment will help keep the company competitive in a changing market.
Despite a shrinking hatchback segment that has hit its market share hard, Maruti Suzuki still dominates non-UV segments in India with over 67% share in cars (hatchbacks and sedans) and over 90% in vans.
