Maruti Suzuki secures design patent for eWX EV in India
What's the story
Maruti Suzuki has successfully patented the design of its forthcoming electric vehicle, the eWX, in India.
The electric hatchback was first introduced as a concept car at the Tokyo Motor Show 2023.
The eWX concept is anticipated to lead to an entry-level city electric vehicle, with a production version promising a range of 230km on a single charge.
Design
A compact design inspired by WagonR
The eWX concept adheres to Japan's Kei car restrictions, measuring only 3,400mm in length.
The design is boxy and tallboy, seemingly inspired by the Wagon R.
Interestingly, the eWX concept is even smaller than the S-Presso sold in India.
The patented design still appears to be in its conceptual phase, with no headlights installed and a curved windshield that extends beyond the A-pillars.
Launch details
Anticipated features and launch of eWX EV
While Suzuki has not disclosed the specifications of the eWX, it is expected to feature a standard single-motor setup.
The brand had previously claimed that this car can deliver a range of 230km.
Reports indicate that an eWX-based hatchback will be added to Maruti's lineup between 2026 and 2027.
This hatchback will be built on the heavily localized K-EV platform and is expected to compete with Tiago EV and MG Comet EV.

The beginning of production for this SUV has been postponed from September 2024 to February 2025.
