Mahindra XUV.e9 EV found testing in India: What to expect
Mahindra is making significant progress in the electric vehicle (EV) market with its XUV.e and BE range of vehicles. The company's aim is to popularize EVs in India and globally showcase made-in-India products. A near-production version of the Mahindra XUV.e9, a coupe version of the XUV.e8, was recently spotted on the Coimbatore-Salem highway in Tamil Nadu, revealing its front fascia with lighting elements.
XUV.e9: Mahindra's flagship offering in the EV market
The XUV.e9 is an electric variant of the XUV700 and represents Mahindra's flagship offering in the XUV.e lineup. This model will boast a claimed top speed exceeding 200km/h, marking a significant departure from previous models from the brand. The recent sighting provides a detailed look at the vehicle's fascia for the first time, revealing its near-final design attributes.
What about the exteriors?
The XUV.e9's fascia features large LED DRLs in a twin-edge boomerang shape, similar to those seen on the XUV 3XO sub-4m SUV. The headlamps are vertically arranged and do not appear to connect with a central light bar. The front number plate is positioned at the top, and a radar module for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) is located in the lower bumper.
Unique design distinctions of the XUV.e9
The side profile of the XUV.e9 introduces more design distinctions with its unique sloping roofline that lends a sophisticated look. In contrast, the XUV.e8 has a side profile almost identical to the XUV700. The XUV.e9 also flaunts wide rear haunches for an aggressive appearance, and unique design attributes at the rear, while XUV.e8 test mules appear vaguely similar to the XUV700.
Inside the XUV.e9: A look at the interior design
Inside, both the XUV.e8 and XUV.e9 share the same design. The dashboard closely resembles that of the XUV700, but is complemented by a 10.25-inch touchscreen display for the front passenger, in addition to two other 10.25-inch horizontal screens. The new two-spoke steering wheel bears a resemblance to those found in Tata's Nexon and Punch EV models, while a redesigned center console enhances the overall ambiance.
Powertrain and launch details of the XUV.e9
In terms of powertrains, the Mahindra XUV.e9 will feature a battery ranging from 60kWh to 80kWh, with single and dual-motor options, boasting a claimed range of around 600km on a full charge. The launch or unveiling of this model could potentially take place on August 15 alongside Thar Armada. This marks another significant step for Mahindra in its journey toward popularizing EVs in India and globally.
