Mahindra Thar bags over 39,000 bookings, automatic variant in demand
Mahindra Thar has been receiving an overwhelming response in India since its launch in October last year. The total bookings for the flagship off-roader have crossed 39,000 in India. According to the company, it received 6,000 bookings for the SUV in January alone and 45% of them were for the automatic variants. Here's our roundup.
Mahindra Thar: At a glance
The Mahindra Thar is offered in AX Optional and LX trims and three roof-top options: hardtop, soft-top, and convertible. It features a boxy design with a blacked-out vertical-slat grille, rounded headlamps, LED taillights, and a tailgate-mounted spare wheel. On the sides, it is flanked by squared windows, blacked-out ORVMs, huge wheel arches, and 18-inch alloy wheels.
Power and performance
The Mahindra Thar comes with two BS6-compliant engine options: a 2.0-liter mStallion petrol mill that generates 150hp/320Nm and a 2.2-liter mHawk diesel motor that makes 130hp/300Nm. Transmission duties on the SUV are handled by a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic torque converter gearbox.
Inside the cabin
The Mahindra Thar has a spacious cabin with fabric upholstery, powered front windows, automatic climate control, rear parking sensors, a height-adjustable driver's seat, and a multifunctional power steering wheel. It packs quad rooftop speakers and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment console with support for the latest connectivity features. In terms of safety, the SUV has dual airbags, 'Follow Me Home' headlamps, and ABS with EBD.
What about the price?
Mahindra Thar SUV starts at Rs. 12.10 lakh for the AX (O) manual trim and goes up to Rs. 14.15 lakh for the LX Diesel automatic variant (both prices, ex-showroom, New Delhi).
