Mahindra Scorpio to get a new entry-level S3+ variant
Mahindra will reportedly introduce a new S3+ base trim for its Scorpio SUV. It will join the existing S5, S7, S9, and S11 variants and will be positioned below the S5. The S3+, to be available with up to 9-seater configuration, will miss out on features like central locking, auto door-lock, as well as bottle and cup holder. However, mechanically, it will remain unchanged.
Mahindra Scorpio S3+: At a glance
The Mahindra Scorpio S3+ will feature an aggressive body, housing a blacked-out grille with chrome inserts, a muscular bonnet, a silver skid plate, and a rear window washer as well as defogger. For lighting, it will offer projector headlamps, LED DRLs, taillights, and front fog lights. On the sides, the SUV will have roof rails, blacked-out B-pillars, power-adjustable ORVMs, and 17-inch alloy wheels.
Power and performance
Mahindra Scorpio S3+ variant will draw power from a slightly toned down 2.2-liter mHawk diesel engine that will deliver 118.3hp of power and 280Nm of peak torque. On the other variants, the motor makes 138hp/320Nm. The engine will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Inside the cabin
Mahindra Scorpio S3+ will be available in 7, 8, and 9-seater configurations. It will offer a spacious cabin with automatic climate control, keyless entry, and a leather-wrapped multifunctional steering wheel, It will pack quad speakers and a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment panel with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. For safety, dual front airbags, a rear-view camera, and ABS with EBD will be available.
How much will it cost?
Currently, the Mahindra Scorpio starts at Rs. 12.67 lakh for the S5 variant and goes up to Rs. 16.52 lakh for the top-spec S11 trim. The upcoming S3+ variant is expected to cost under Rs. 12 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom).
