Mahindra assists in developing futuristic car for Kalki 2898 AD
The forthcoming dystopian sci-fi film, Kalki 2898 AD, is generating buzz not only due to its star-studded cast but also for an innovative prop, the Bujji robot car. This real-life vehicle was developed with assistance from the Mahindra Research Valley team in Chennai. The team provided their expertise in the powertrain configuration, architecture, and performance of this unique vehicle, which was then assembled by Jayem Automotives.
The car is a distinct character in the film
The Bujji robot car is more than just a prop; it's a character in its own right in the film. It displays human-like behavioral patterns and is voiced by actor Keerthy Suresh. The car was recently unveiled in Hyderabad, with lead actor Prabhas making a grand entrance in it. This unique car features two hubless wheels at the front and a spherical wheel at the back.
A fusion of futuristic design and power
The Bujji robot car measures 6,047mm in length, 3,380mm in width, and 2,186mm in height, and weighs a hefty 6,000kg. Its rear spherical wheel is powered by two electric motors from Mahindra. The total system output is around 126hp with an impressive torque of 980Nm. A substantial 47kWh battery pack keeps this colossal vehicle operational.
Unique features of the Bujji robot car
The Bujji robot car is equipped with 34.5-inch hubless rims shod with custom CEAT tires, canopy-style doors, and a rear spherical-style tire. These unique attributes contribute to its futuristic design. The film's director Nag Ashwin sought help from Anand Mahindra, Chairman of Mahindra Group on X for assistance in developing this innovative vehicle prop. Anand answered by directing them to R Velusamy, Chief of Global Product Development at Mahindra.
