Mahindra Bolero Neo gets 1-star rating in Global NCAP test
The Mahindra Bolero Neo has received a disappointing 1-star rating, for both adult and child protection in the Global NCAP crash tests. The vehicle, equipped with only two standard airbags, managed to secure just 20.26 points out of a possible 34, indicating structural issues and problems with the footwell area. The test report highlighted inadequate chest and feet protection for the driver, as well as missing safety features such as curtain airbags and seat belt reminders for all passengers.
Bolero Neo scores 12.71 points in child occupant protection
In terms of child occupant protection, the Bolero Neo scored a mere 12.71 points out of a possible 49. The low score was attributed to the absence of three-point seat belts for all passengers, lack of a passenger airbag switch, and only one child restraint system (CRS). Despite these shortcomings, the vehicle demonstrated an "acceptable dynamic performance" in child protection. However, Global NCAP expressed disappointment with Mahindra for its side-facing third-row seats arrangement, which falls short of safety expectations.
The Bolero Neo is based on an outdated platform
This is the lowest rating a Mahindra passenger vehicle has received under the #SaferCarsForIndia initiative, since the Scorpio's zero-star performance in 2016. While other Mahindra products like Scorpio N, XUV700, and XUV300 SUV have received positive ratings, the Bolero Neo's poor performance was not entirely surprising. Bolero Neo is essentially an updated version of the TUV300 that has been on sale since 2016, and is due to be replaced within two years by a new platform currently under development.
Mahindra says Bolero Neo is compliant with safety standards
In response to the disappointing rating, Mahindra stated, "We are committed to delivering vehicles that ensure the safety and satisfaction of our customers and users." "The Bolero Neo has always complied with safety regulations that have been introduced over time and continues to be fully compliant with the latest Indian safety standards."
