MINI Cooper SE Convertible breaks cover as a limited-run EV
Legendary carmaker MINI has taken the wraps off the Cooper SE Convertible for the global markets. The drop-top EV will be produced in a limited run of just 999 units. For highlights, the car follows the brand's modern design philosophy and retains most design elements from the standard hatchback model. It is offered with a front-mounted electric motor that develops 181hp of power.
Why does this story matter?
With the entire automotive industry slowly shifting the focus toward green mobility solutions, BMW-owned iconic British automaker MINI also jumped on the electrification bandwagon in 2019 with the Cooper SE model. Based on the third-generation MINI hatchback, the EV received a warm response from critics and customers alike. The company has now revealed a limited-run convertible model to increase the desirability quotient.
The hatchback flaunts a fabric drop-top roof and designer wheels
The MINI Cooper SE Convertible retains the overall design of the standard hatchback model and is available in two color options: Enigmatic Black and White Silver. It flaunts a clamshell bonnet with a functional air scoop, oval-shaped projector LED headlamps, a chrome-surrounded grille, rounded ORVMs, a fabric drop-top roof, and designer 17-inch alloy wheels. LED "Union Jack" taillights are available at the rear end.
It promises a range of up to 270km
The limited-run MINI Cooper SE Convertible draws power from a front-mounted electric motor that is paired with a 32.6kWh battery pack. The setup churns out a maximum power of 181hp and a peak torque of 270Nm. The EV promises a range of up to 270km.
The EV features Nappa leather upholstery and a head-up display
On the inside, the MINI Cooper SE Convertible has a sporty four-seater cabin with an all-black dashboard, Nappa leather upholstery, multi-color ambient lighting, a head-up display, a wireless charger, automatic climate control, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel. It packs a Harman Kardon sound system, a 5.5-inch digital instrument console, and an 8.8-inch infotainment panel. Passengers' safety is ensured by multiple airbags, ABS, and EBD.
How much does the limited-run MINI Cooper SE Convertible cost?
The pricing details of the limited-run MINI Cooper SE Convertible are yet to be disclosed by the carmaker. We expect the drop-top model to carry a premium over the standard hatchback version, which costs Rs. 50.9 lakh (ex-showroom) in India.
