Mahindra Thar 5-door spotted with ADAS camera module
Mahindra's Thar 5-door model has been seen sporting an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) camera module, hinting at a significant upgrade in passenger safety. This follows the recent announcement that the XUV 3XO will be the first sub-4-meter SUV to feature Level 2 ADAS. The test model of the Thar 5-door was recently spotted in full camouflage, revealing a rectangular housing just behind the IRVM. This has been identified as the casing for the ADAS camera setup.
ADAS features would be similar to XUV700
It is anticipated that the Thar 5-door will have ADAS features similar to those in the XUV700, including automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, smart pilot assist, lane keep assist, traffic sign recognition, and driver drowsiness detection. The safety package for the Mahindra Thar 5-door is also expected to include six airbags, front parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, and all disc brakes.
Thar 5-door's design won't differ much from its 3-door sibling
The exterior design of the Thar 5-door won't differ greatly from its 3-door sibling, except for minor cosmetic changes such as a redesigned front grille. Its increased size and wheelbase will give it a unique side profile and a more commanding road presence. The test model was seen with multi-spoke alloy wheels, LED tail lights, and a tailgate mounted spare wheel.
Thar 5-door: On the inside
Inside, the Thar 5-door is likely to feature a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system similar to the updated XUV400. Other notable features may include a fully digital instrument console, dual-zone AC, rear center armrest, and a sunroof. The same engine options as the 3-door version are expected, including a 2.2-liter diesel engine producing 130hp/300Nm and a 2.0-liter petrol unit delivering 150hp/300Nm. Both engines will offer a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission options.
It will be launched on August 15
Likely to be named Thar Armada at launch on August 15, the Thar 5-door model will rival Maruti Suzuki Jimny and upcoming Force Gurkha 5-door. With its extensive list of features and family-friendly seating, it could potentially take market share from compact and midsize SUVs in the country.
