Lotus's first SUV to be called Eletre: Everything we know
British automaker Lotus has announced that its first SUV will be called Eletre and it will be unveiled today. The brand's first regular production EV is expected to have an eye-catching design and a spacious cabin with many features. It might be fueled by a twin-motor electric powertrain and put out a maximum power of around 600-700hp.
Why does this story matter?
The Eletre will be Lotus's first car to be built in China and will introduce a new platform intended for "lifestyle" vehicles. The vehicle will be similar in size to a Porsche Cayenne and should attract a lot of buyers in the overseas markets. If the car makes its way to our shores, the competition in the electric four-wheeler segment will be raised.
The car will have L-shaped headlights and roof rails
The Lotus Eletre is likely to flaunt a sculpted bonnet, a sleek grille, a wide air vent, a prominent front splitter, L-shaped headlights, and a full-width taillamp. It will be flanked by roof rails, B-pillars, cameras instead of ORVMs, and designer wheels. Dimensions-wise, it might have a wheelbase measuring between 2,889mm and 3,100mm and tip the scales at more than 1,680kg.
It will run on a dual-motor electric powertrain
Lotus Eletre might be powered by two electric motors linked to a battery pack with support for fast-charging and an all-wheel-drive system. The setup should churn out a maximum power of around 600-700hp.
The SUV will get a 'floating' touchscreen infotainment system
The Lotus Eletre will have a luxurious cabin with five seats, auto climate control, a large center console that will divide the driver and passenger areas, and a multifunctional steering wheel. It will pack a "floating" touchscreen infotainment panel with support for the latest connectivity options. The passengers' safety will be ensured by multiple airbags, a rear-view camera, parking sensors, and ABS.
Lotus Eletre: Availability
The pricing and availability details of the Lotus Eletre will be disclosed at the upcoming launch event. It will be followed by an electric small crossover and four-door coupe within the next two years.
