Lamborghini gains traction in India with nearly 200 pending orders
Italian supercar manufacturer Lamborghini has reported a significant surge in demand for its vehicles in India with nearly 200 pending orders. The company had a record-breaking year last year, selling over 10,000 cars globally and crossing the 100-unit sales mark in India for the first time. "India is still a small market, but it's developing very fast," said Stephan Winkelmann, CEO of Automobili Lamborghini.
Lamborghini's Indian market trends and global sales
Despite the modest volumes, India is frequently discussed at Lamborghini's headquarters in Bologna, as per Winkelmann. The company closely monitors the development of other luxury product categories such as fashion, watches, and accessories to understand trends among Indian youth. Globally, Lamborghini's order book currently stands at nearly 20,000 units with most cars booked until 2025. This translates to an order book worth over €6 billion globally.
Lamborghini's future plans and market strategy
Winkelmann emphasized that their landmark achievement of 10,000units annual sales in 2023 was not due to chance or aggressive marketing but a result of focused brand building. He also assured that they could increase capacity if necessary. "We could add more capacity, but we are not pushing volumes. We want to have the right balance," he stated. Francesco Foscini, head of sales at Lamborghini, sees potential for growth given India's rising number of millionaires and growing economy.
