2019 EICMA show: KTM 890 Duke R breaks cover
Austrian automaker KTM has unveiled its much-awaited sports tourer, the 890 Duke R, at the ongoing EICMA show in Italy. The newly launched motorcycle arrives as a more powerful variant of the 790 Duke which was launched in India in September. Reportedly, the bike is likely to hit our shores sometime in mid-2020. KTM 890 Duke R: At a glance
KTM 890 Duke R looks similar to the 790 Duke. However, it comes with slightly tweaked ergonomics to offer a more aggressive riding position. Besides that, it offers a similar naked street design with a split headlamp unit, split seats, angular looking fuel tank extensions, and body-colored alloy wheels. The motorcycle also gets a fully-digital instrument cluster and an all-LED lighting setup.
Power and performance
The KTM 890 Duke R is powered by 890cc engine that churns out 121PS of power and 99Nm of peak torque, which is 16PS and 12Nm more than the 790 Duke. This motor comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox for handling transmission duties.
What about braking and suspension setup?
In the braking department, KTM 890 Duke R comes equipped with Brembo-sourced disc brakes on both wheels, along with dual-channel ABS and six-axis inertial measurement unit (IMU) for improved road handling. The motorcycle also houses fully-adjustable WP Apex forks up front and a monoshock unit on the rear to handle the suspension duties.
And, when will it arrive in India?
Going by the reports, KTM is expected to launch the 890 Duke R in India sometime in mid-2020. As for the pricing, it is likely to cost Rs. 1-1.5 lakh more than the 790 Duke which is priced at Rs. 8.5 lakh in the country.
