Kia previews Tasman, its first pickup truck coming in 2025
Earlier this month, South Korean automotive manufacturer, Kia, announced its plans to enter the C-segment pickup truck market. The company's first pickup truck model, named the Tasman, is set to launch in 2025. Now, Kia has showcased the vehicle in a vibrant camouflage wrap, revealing its design elements. It has a crew-cab shape and headlights are reminiscent of the Telluride and EV9 SUVs. Additionally, the use of all-terrain tires suggests a potential focus on off-roading capabilities.
What's under the hood?
The Tasman is expected to feature a 2.2-liter four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine and an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission. There's also speculation about a 2.5-liter turbo petrol engine variant with a hybrid powertrain. Standard pickup truck features like an all-wheel drive or a 4x4 system, differential locks, and a low-range gearbox are likely to be included. The vehicle is set to compete with established models such as the Ford Ranger, Hyundai Santa Cruz, and Volkswagen Amarok.
Kia Tasman won't debut in India anytime soon
Kia is currently testing the Tasman in Australia, but there's no confirmation yet on its release in India. In related news, Kia plans to introduce a new SUV named Clavis in India early next year. Positioned between the Sonet and Seltos models, Clavis aims to create a new niche in the market. Kia has also disclosed plans to debut its three-row electric SUV, the EV9, in India later this year.
