Kia unveils its smallest electric car yet
What's the story
Kia has unveiled its latest addition to the electric vehicle (EV) market, the EV2 concept.
The innovative model is set to enter production in 2026 and will be available in Europe as well as other yet-to-be-announced regions.
The design of the EV2 concept straddles between a compact hatchback and a small crossover, featuring short overhangs and an abundance of plastic body cladding.
Design highlights
EV2 concept showcases unique design features
The EV2 concept features a distinctive design with dual claw-like headlights and vertical taillights on the sides.
As part of its futuristic approach, Kia has also ditched the B-pillars and added rear-hinged doors for easy access.
However, the production model is expected to have a more conventional layout with regular door handles.
Interior features
Inside the EV2: A blend of minimalism and innovation
The interior of the EV2 concept is a perfect mix of minimalism and innovation.
The dashboard design would be more complex in the production version, as Kia and Hyundai are known for adding physical controls in their cars.
The car also sports a dual-screen setup, an octagonal single-spoke steering wheel for clear instrument cluster visibility, and removable triangular speakers doubling as portable sound systems.
Additional amenities
Innovative features of the concept
The EV2 concept also packs some cool features such as retractable luggage dividers, a fully flat floor for better space utilization, and a panoramic glass roof.
The rear seats can also be folded up to make more room for the front seats that slide back on rails.
However, Kia has not yet revealed any technical specifications for this model as it is still in the design phase.
Future prospects
Position and potential successors in Kia's lineup
Since the EV2 is a B-segment concept model, it could mean that Kia may introduce a more affordable EV.
The naming convention adopted by Kia has also led to speculation of an even smaller model, possibly called the EV1. This could be the electric successor of the Kia Picanto city car.
