Kia EV9 GT to go official in 2025: Expected features
Kia Motors recently disclosed its Q1 2024 business performance, which included a recording of the CEO's Investor Day address. The speech revealed exciting details about the company's upcoming products, notably the much-anticipated EV9 GT. Slated for a January 2025 reveal, the EV9 GT is expected to deliver "enormous power" due to an enhanced dual-motor setup.
The EV9 GT is expected to be a lot quicker
The forthcoming EV9 GT is projected to clock 0-100km/h in less than four seconds, a remarkable feat considering the SUV's substantial weight of nearly 2,722kg. This performance signifies a major upgrade from the current top-tier model on sale, which offers 379hp and 700Nm. The GT version's additional power is expected to reduce the sprint time by more than one second.
Power upgrade might result in a decrease in range
Unless Kia plans to enhance the battery chemistry, the EV9 GT's power upgrade might result in a decrease in range. This compromise between performance and efficiency is typical when an electric vehicle (EV) undergoes a power boost. The existing EV9 GT-Line model can travel up to 434km on a single charge, according to EPA standards.
Kia EV5 GT is also in the works
Kia hinted that the high-performance GT model will come equipped with an improved suspension setup and superior brakes. In addition to the EV9 GT, another electric Kia SUV is set to receive a GT version. Images of the EV5 GT have already surfaced in China following approval by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, although it was not mentioned during the CEO Investor Day.
Kia's product roadmap this year
During the presentation, Kia showcased a product roadmap that included an updated EV6 set for market launch in Q2 this year. The sporty EV6 GT will follow in early Q4. Other plans involve refining the popular Sportage model in Q4 and launching the EV3 and K4 models in Q3. The large K8 sedan is also due for a mid-cycle refresh.
