Kia EV6 trademarked in India; may launch this year
South Korean automaker Kia Motors has trademarked the EV6 electric car in India. It could be launched here in the second half of this year. As for the highlights, the crossover has an aggressive design and an upmarket cabin loaded with tech-biased features. It is offered with a choice of two battery packs and promises a range of up to 500km per charge.
Why does this story matter?
The EV6 was unveiled in May last year. It is the company's first model to be based on the Electric-Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) architecture and offers great looks and performance. In the international markets, the crossover rivals the Tesla Model Y and Volkswagen ID.4. It will arrive in India as a completely-built unit (CBU) and will raise the competition in the electric four-wheeler segment.
The car has 19-inch wheels and LED headlights
Kia EV6 flaunts a clamshell hood, large angular LED headlamps with LED DRLs forming the car's 'Digital Tiger Face,' a narrow grille, and a wide air dam. It is flanked by blacked-out B-pillars, indicator-mounted ORVMs, sharp body lines, and 19-inch alloy wheels. A shark-fin antenna, a raked windscreen, and a sleek taillight spanning the width of the car grace the rear.
It can accelerate from 0-96km/h in 5.1 seconds
Kia EV6 is offered with 58kWh and 77.4kWh battery packs. The larger battery comes linked with two motors, generating a combined output of 320hp/604Nm. The powertrain allows the vehicle to sprint from 0-96km/h in 5.1 seconds and deliver a range of up to 500km.
The crossover gets an AR head-up display and multiple airbags
Kia EV6 has an augmented reality head-up display, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 16-speaker Meridian sound system, a wireless charging facility, and an eight-way adjustable driver's seat. It houses a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment panel with support for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. For the passengers' safety, multiple airbags, Lane Keep Assist, and High Beam Assist are offered.

In the US, the Kia EV6 bears a starting price-tag of $40,900 (around Rs. 30.6 lakh). Details pertaining to the vehicle's pricing and availability in India will be disclosed at the time of its launch.
