Kia Carens (facelift) MPV spied on test: What to expect
Kia Motors, the South Korean automaker, is currently testing a facelifted variant of its entry-level Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV), the Carens. Recent spy photos from South Korea reveal the three-row car draped in thick camouflage, suggesting significant design changes. The revamped Carens is slated for an early 2025 debut in the Indian market. Here's everything we know about it.
It will feature a revised front fascia
The spy photos reveal a revised front fascia for the facelifted Carens, including repositioned headlights, and tweaked LED daytime running lights (DRLs). The test vehicle appears to be a lower-specific variant, lacking a sunroof and featuring halogen headlights instead of LEDs. Despite the heavy camouflage, the side profile remains largely unchanged with identical silhouettes.
Rear design and interiors
The rear of the facelifted Carens showcases revised inverted L-shaped LED taillamps, a shark-fin antenna, as well as roof rails. The new C-shaped LED taillights resemble those seen on the refreshed Seltos and Sonet. Changes to the front and rear bumpers, tweaked alloy wheels, and thick cladding across the vehicle are also expected. Although less visible in spy shots, interior alterations are anticipated to maintain continuity with the current model's layout.
Expected features and safety measures
The facelifted Carens is expected to offer six- or seven-seat configurations. It's likely to feature a 10.25-inch infotainment panel, a digital driver's display, a 360-degree-view camera, an air purifier, ventilated front seats, a sunroof, and ambient lighting. The vehicle will likely include a Level 2 ADAS suite with adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, and blind-spot monitoring. On the safety front, it is tipped to come with six airbags as standard.
Powertrain options of the car
No mechanical changes are expected for the current engine options of the new Carens. It is anticipated to retain its current engines: a 115hp 1.5-liter NA petrol, a 160hp 1.5-liter turbo-petrol, and a 116hp 1.5-liter diesel mill. Various transmission choices will also be available, depending on the engine type. Additionally, an EV version of the Carens is in development and expected to debut in India by late 2025.
