Jeep reveals its first-ever electric car; coming in 2023
US automaker Jeep has released teaser images of its first electric SUV. It will be up for grabs in early 2023. The pictures suggest that the car will have split-style headlights, a closed front grille, thick cladding on the wheel arches, and hidden rear door handles, among other highlights. However, details pertaining to the interiors and powertrain are currently not available.
Why does this story matter?
The upcoming Jeep EV will be a part of Stellantis Group's 'Dare Forward 2030' strategy and shall be the company's smallest vehicle in the US. Its production will commence in November 2022. The vehicle is expected to offer good features and performance. If it makes its way to India, the competition in the electric four-wheeler segment will be raised.
The car has a 7-slot grille and wrap-around taillamps
The upcoming Jeep e-SUV has a muscular bonnet, a closed seven-slot grille with a lower case "e" on it, split-style headlamps with DRLs, a wide hexagonal mesh with a sensor in the middle, and fog lights. It is flanked by blacked-out B-pillars, ORVMs, and designer wheels. A bumper with black cladding and taillights with X-shaped elements grace the rear end.
It will be based on the Compact Modular Platform
The upcoming Jeep model will be based on the Compact Modular Platform and shall draw power from an electric powertrain. However, details pertaining to the specifications and power figures will be disclosed at a later date.
The SUV might get a head-up display and rear-view camera
The 2023 Jeep electric SUV is expected to have a luxurious cabin with a head-up display, auto climate control, rear AC vents, parking sensors, and multifunctional steering with cruise control. The safety of the passengers should be ensured by multiple airbags, a rear-view camera, crash sensors, ABS, and EBD. It will also house a touchscreen infotainment console with support for the latest connectivity facilities.
How much will it cost?
In the US, the upcoming Jeep electric SUV will cost less than the Renegade which bears a starting price-tag of $24,490 (around Rs. 18.5 lakh). Its production will be limited to around one lakh units a year.
