Jeep India plans entry into midsize SUV market by 2025
Jeep, the American car manufacturer, is reportedly gearing up to penetrate the midsize SUV segment in India in 2025. The forthcoming SUV will be built on Stellantis's CMP platform, akin to the Citroen C3 Aircross. This new addition will take on Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate, SKODA Kushaq, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Kia Seltos, and Volkswagen Taigun here. Jeep India is contemplating a partnership with Citroen for its debut in this segment.
It will have a spacious design
Jeep aims to leverage the Stellantis platform to offer a spacious as well as practical SUV in both 5- and 7-seating configurations, at competitive prices. The design of the new SUV is expected to retain Jeep's signature boxy stance, possibly drawing inspiration from the popular Compass model. It will feature high ground clearance, and a commanding driving position, enhancing its appeal among SUV enthusiasts.
Upcoming Jeep SUV to boast enhanced features and performance
The interior of the upcoming Jeep car is expected to be more feature-rich compared to the Citroen C3 Aircross. Mechanically, it's likely to be powered by a 1.2-liter turbo-petrol engine, similar to Citroen's model. This engine, coupled with a six-speed manual and a six-speed AMT gearbox, makes a peak power of 109hp and a maximum torque of 205Nm. Both manual and automatic transmission choices are anticipated for this SUV.
Jeep's new SUV to be most affordable model in India
The new SUV is projected to be priced between ₹15 lakh to ₹18 lakh, positioning it as the most affordable Jeep SUV here, below the Compass. Currently, the base variant of Compass is priced at ₹20.69 lakh while the range-topping model costs up to ₹32.27 lakh (all prices are ex-showroom). Although Jeep India has not yet announced the launch date for its upcoming mid-size SUV, it is expected to be in 2025.
