Jaguar I-TYPE 6 Gen3 Formula E race car breaks cover
Jaguar TCS Racing has revealed the I-TYPE 6 Gen3 Formula E race car ahead of the 2023 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The car features an all-new asymmetric livery from Jaguar's Creative team to distinguish both drivers on the race track and provides a distinctive new identity for the Gen3 era. It will be driven by Sam Bird and Mitch Evans.
Why does this story matter?
Formula E is the pinnacle of sustainable open-wheel Formula Racing since 2014. It is considered a leader in all-electric motorsport across the globe. The ninth season of the sport is expected to raise the bar with all-new Gen3 race cars. Jaguar has pledged to "do better" in the 2023 Formula E championship after coming close to winning the title in the last two seasons.
The race car flaunts an edgy bodywork
Jaguar has designed the I-TYPE 6 Gen3 race car using lightweight materials such as linen and recycled carbon fiber, as directed by the Fedration Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). The race car flaunts edgy body panels and a unique asymmetric livery in carbon black and satin white with bright gold accents. The Gen3 race car has a wheelbase of 2970.5mm and weighs 840kg.
It draws power from a 476hp electric powertrain
The Jaguar I-TYPE 6 Gen3 race car is backed by an all-new 476hp dual electric motor setup with a new-generation battery pack. It has a top speed of 320km/h and features a 600kW regenerative braking system that recovers over 40% of the energy during racing.
The car features carbon fiber reinforced cockpit with fire-retardant material
With safety being a priority in any form of Formula Racing, the all-new Jaguar I-TYPE 6 Gen3 race car features a carbon fiber reinforced cockpit, fire-retardant padding material all-around the cockpit and in the head restraint, a four-point safety harness with quick release function, and a "Halo" crash-protection system. The use of linen and recycled carbon fiber in bodywork construction helps improve the structure.
What is Jaguar TCS Racing aiming for in 2023 season?
Recently awarded with FIA Three-Star Environmental Accreditation (the highest possible rating for sustainability), the Jaguar TCS Racing team is completely focused on winning the 2023 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. "We are confident in the Jaguar I-TYPE 6 and in the strength of our talented team and I look forward to what this season will bring," said James Barclay, Team Principal.
