What's the story

Hyundai has unveiled its latest offering in the electric vehicle (EV) segment, the Ioniq 9. The three-row all-electric SUV was launched at an event at the Goldstein House in Los Angeles. The Ioniq 9 is Hyundai's third and biggest EV built on the new E-GMP platform, which also serves as the foundation for other models such as the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6.

Market launch

Ioniq 9 to hit South Korean, US markets in 2025

The flagship Ioniq 9 will make its market debut in South Korea and the US in the first half of 2025. The launch will be part of Hyundai's ambitious plan to introduce 23 new electric cars by 2030 and become a leader in the EV segment. The company has already made a name for itself with its Ioniq series, winning two consecutive World Car of The Year awards for Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 models.

Vehicle design

Ioniq 9: A blend of spacious design and advanced features

The Ioniq 9 is the largest of Hyundai's EVs with a generous 3,130mm wheelbase. Its flat floor design provides more room for passengers. The vehicle comes in six and seven-seat configurations with options to fully recline the first and second rows. It also offers plenty of headroom and legroom when the second and third rows are merged.

Interior amenities

Ioniq 9's interior: A hub of innovative features

The interior of the Ioniq 9 is loaded with futuristic features to make the passengers comfortable. These features include a 12.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which is part of a panoramic curved display that also includes a digital driver display of the same size. The SUV offers a Bose premium sound system with 14 speakers and an advanced multimedia unit with 5.1-channel surround sound for an immersive audio experience.

Unique features

Ioniq 9 introduces dynamic body care system and swivel seats

The Ioniq 9 also debuts the Dynamic Body Care System, a first in this segment, which comes with massage functionality. The system utilizes pressure and vibration to stimulate blood flow and circulation, reducing fatigue on long journeys. The vehicle also offers swivel seats in the second row that rotate on their own axis when parked, letting passengers in the second and third rows face each other.

Storage capacity

Ioniq 9 offers impressive storage and boot space

The Ioniq 9 features a console named Universal Island 2.0, which enhances accessibility and comfort in the front row seating arrangement. It also features two-way armrests that can be opened from both ends. The vehicle provides boot space of up to 620-liter with all three rows in use, and expands as big as 1,323-liter with third row seats folded flat.

Power source

Ioniq 9 is powered by Hyundai's largest EV battery

The Ioniq 9 is powered by a 110.3kWh battery pack, the largest in any car manufactured by Hyundai. This powerful battery allows the electric SUV to run for nearly 620km without recharging. The vehicle also supports fast charging with a 350kW charger, letting it recharge from 10% to 80% in just about half an hour.

Model variants

Ioniq 9 will be available in 3 broad variants

Hyundai intends to offer the Ioniq 9 in three broad variants: Long-Range Rear-Wheel Drive, Performance All-Wheel Drive, and Long Range AWD. The power output of these models ranges between 215hp and 492hp. The Performance model can go from 0-100km/h in just 5.2 seconds while the Long Range AWD variant takes a little longer at 6.7 seconds.
