South Korean automaker Hyundai has unveiled the facelifted version of its IONIQ 5 SUV for the European markets. It is expected to go on sale later this year. The car packs a larger 77.4kWh battery pack with an improved thermoregulation system. It also flaunts minute cosmetic changes and offers new features, including video-based digital interior and exterior mirrors.
Why does this story matter?
Hyundai Ioniq 5 (facelift) offers better features and an improved range as compared to its predecessor. It is likely to attract a lot of buyers in Europe. The vehicle is also expected to be introduced in India soon. It will be one of the first cars to offer Level 2 autonomy in our country and will raise the competition in the electric four-wheeler segment.
The car has LED headlights and sculpted doors
The Hyundai IONIQ 5 is based on the brand's Electric Global Modular Platform (E-GMP) and sports a black band in place of a grille, black inserts on the bumper, and LED headlamps with quad DRLs. It is flanked by blacked-out B-pillars, digital mirrors, sculpted doors, flared wheel arches, and designer wheels. A shark-fin antenna, LED taillights, and roof-mounted spoiler grace the rear end.
It will offer a range of around 500km per charge
Hyundai IONIQ 5 packs an electric motor linked to a 77.4kWh battery. The official figures are unavailable but the car is tipped to deliver a range of nearly 500km on the WLTP cycle. Smart frequency dampers for improved ride comfort and handling are also available.
The vehicle gets seven airbags and a digital mirror
The Hyundai IONIQ 5 has a spacious cabin made of sustainable materials, dual-zone climate control, 8-way adjustable seats, a Digital Center Mirror (DCM), rear AC vents, a Bose audio system, and Level 2 autonomous driving support. It packs a 12.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.25-inch touchscreen infotainment console. Seven airbags and a 360-degree-view camera ensure the safety of the passengers.
Hyundai IONIQ 5: Pricing
The pricing details of the facelifted Hyundai IONIQ 5 are currently unavailable. However, it should carry some premium over the outgoing model which begins at £36,995 (around Rs. 38 lakh) in the UK.
