Hyundai Casper trademarked in India: Is it the Santro successor?
Hyundai is reportedly gearing up to introduce the Casper crossover city car in India, potentially adding more diversity to the entry-level SUV segment. The company currently competes with popular models like the Tata Punch through its Exter SUV. However, with Hyundai's recent trademarking of the name 'Casper' in India, there's speculation about a new contender entering the market.
Hyundai Casper: A blend of hatchback and SUV features
The Hyundai Casper is a unique blend of a tallboy hatchback and an SUV, potentially appealing to a new segment of customers who desire both styles. Its compact size could be beneficial in heavy traffic or tight parking situations. In South Korea, where it's currently sold, the Casper measures 3,595mm in length, 1,595mm in width, and 1,575mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,400mm.
Hyundai Casper: A potential successor to the Santro model
The Hyundai Casper could serve as a replacement for the discontinued Santro model. Despite being slightly longer than the Santro, which measured 3610mm, the sportier profile of the Casper could attract potential buyers. Key features include circular headlamps, top-mounted LED DRLs, an attractive mesh grille, and a prominent bumper. Inside, there is a minimalistic cabin with a two-spoke steering wheel, dashboard-mounted center console, and gear lever. The car also features a fully digital instrument screen and floating touchscreen infotainment system.
Hyundai Casper: Expected pricing and market competition
In terms of powertrain options, the South Korean version offers a 1.0-liter NA petrol and a 1.0-liter turbo petrol engine, with power outputs of 85hp and 99hp, respectively. The Indian version of the Hyundai Casper is expected to feature the NA petrol engine, with both manual and AMT gearbox options available. The starting price could be around ₹5 lakh. While it won't have any direct rivals, it could pose a threat to Tata Tiago and WagonR.
