What's BH plate for cars and how to get it?
What's the story
The Bharat (BH) series registration plates were introduced by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) in 2021.
The initiative was launched to ease the non-transport vehicle registration process for defense personnel and government employees with transferable jobs, so that relocation between states becomes simple.
Private sector employees whose offices have branches in over four states or union territories can also apply for BH registration for their personal vehicles.
Let's have a look at how to get such plates.
Step #1
Online application
The process of applying for a BH registration starts with the dealer filling out an online application in Form 20 on the Vahan portal, on behalf of the car buyer.
The dealer has to choose the series type for the vehicle's registration as Bharat Series or BH series.
This is the first step in getting the vehicle registered under this new scheme.
Step #2
Document submission and payment
During the online application process on the Vahan portal, the dealer has to upload a working certificate for the car buyer.
This includes documents such as Form 60 or an official identity card.
After submitting all the necessary documents, an online payment of the necessary fee or motor vehicle tax has to be made.
To get a BH series registration plate, vehicle owners initially have to pay tax for two years.
Step #3
RTO approval
After all the procedures are completed, the Vahan 4.0 portal will issue a BH series number randomly. The concerned RTO gives the final approval for the BH series application. This is where the registration process under this initiative ends.
