Honda unveils Prelude EV concept at Japan Mobility Show
At the ongoing Japan Mobility Show, Honda has revealed its Prelude Concept, giving a glimpse into the potential revival of the legendary sports coupe. The announcement came during the conclusion of Honda's presentation, with only a few details disclosed. The automaker confirmed that the concept car is an electric vehicle (EV) aimed at combining electrification and driving enjoyment in upcoming Honda models.
The concept borrows design elements from the legendary Civic
The design of the Honda Prelude Concept bears a resemblance to the Civic, showcasing symmetrical body lines and a grille-free front. It is equipped with Brembo brakes and 20-inch wheels similar to the ones seen on production-ready models, traditional ORVMs instead of cameras, and a slender yet noticeable spoiler on the boot. The only element hinting at its conceptual nature is the blacked-out windows, implying no interior to display.
The EV would likely develop around 300hp of power
While the specifications of the concept EV are not disclosed, it might include a single motor powering the front wheels, a moderate battery pack to maintain a manageable weight and an output of around 300hp. This would position it as an affordable sports coupe that merges excitement and performance with all-electric capabilities. However, Honda has not yet confirmed whether they will produce a version of the Prelude Concept for the market.
It plays a vital role in Honda's future sports models
Following the Prelude Concept's debut, Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe remarked that it "will become the prelude for our future model which will inherit the 'joy of driving' into the full-fledged electrified future and embody Honda's unalterable sports mindset." This statement implies that the concept coupe could serve as a basis for upcoming Honda performance electric vehicles. We expect the Japanese marque to disclose details soon.
