Harley-Davidson's first all-electric motorcycle to be launched in August
Harley-Davidson has taken the wraps off its first-ever electric market-ready motorcycle, the LiveWire. The motorcycle promises an impressive range of 225km on a single charge and can be fully charged in around an hour using DC Fast Charging (DCFC). To recall, it was showcased as a concept model at the 2018 EICMA show and at the 2019 Consumer Electronic Show (CES). Here's more.
Harley-Davidson LiveWire: At a glance
The all-new LiveWire sits on a cast aluminum frame and features a naked design with rounded headlamps, narrow seats, and black alloy wheels. The motorcycle comes equipped with a telematics system known as H-D Connect that feeds motorcycle's battery charge and service reminder data to the owner via Harley's connected app. Moreover, it gets a 4.3-inch touchscreen panel and an all-LED setup for lighting.
Power and performance
The bike gets a belt drive system to rotate the rear wheel. It is powered by an in-house H-D Revelation permanent-magnet electric motor which is capable of producing 105hp (78 kW) of power and 116Nm torque. It promises a range of 225km on a single charge and can accelerate from 0-100kmph in 3 seconds. Notably, it features the signature Harley-Davidson sound as it accelerates.
How long does it take to get fully charged?
The motorcycle can be fully charged overnight by an onboard Level 1 charger. And for faster charge, you can visit any public Level 3 DC Fast Charge station for 80% charge in 40 minutes or 100% charge in an hour.
On the road
On the safety front, the recently unveiled LiveWire comes equipped with Brembo's disc brakes on both the front and rear wheels along with the dual-channel ABS. To handle the suspension duties, the motorcycle houses Showa's fully adjustable telescopic forks on the front side along with a monoshock suspension on the rear.
And, what about pricing?
Given the features and performance, the Harley-Davidson LiveWire won't come cheap. According to The Verge, it is expected to start at $29,799 in international markets.
