2024 Ford Mustang Mach-E debuts with more range, quicker acceleration
Ford has unveiled its upgraded 2024 Mustang Mach-E, an electric vehicle (EV) that surpasses its predecessors in terms of range, charging speed, and acceleration. Despite being the second-largest EV seller in the US, Ford is still trailing behind Tesla in overall sales. However, as Tesla's market share gradually decreases each quarter, Ford is making strides to improve its flagship EV and solidify its position in the market.
2024 Mustang Mach-E boasts improved range
The latest Mustang Mach-E model is set to cover an additional 16-32 kilometer compared to its previous versions, according to Ford's announcement. The rear-wheel-drive variant with an extended battery range now provides a total EPA-estimated range of 515km. The standard battery variant offers a range of 402km, while the anticipated 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT is expected to deliver a range of 450km.
New Mustang Mach-E outperforms in speed and acceleration
The new model of the Mustang Mach-E can accelerate from 0 to 97km/h in just 3.3 seconds, a speed that Ford claims surpasses both the Tesla Model Y and Porsche Macan 4 Electric. The Performance upgrade is an optional feature for the Mach-E GT but comes standard on the new special-edition Rally version of the electric SUV.
Optimized charging times for 2024 Mustang Mach-E
The charging times for the new model have been significantly improved. When connected to a DC fast charger, the 2024 Mustang Mach-E can juice up from 10 to 80% in just over half an hour (36.2 minutes) with the extended range battery. This is nearly nine minutes faster than previous models, showcasing Ford's commitment to enhancing user convenience and efficiency in their electric vehicles.
Ford adjusts pricing and investment in response to market
Earlier this year, Ford reduced prices on the Mach-E, largely as a response to Tesla's price cuts. This move reflects a new market reality where EV sales growth has slowed down, with customers prioritizing affordability and reliable charging infrastructure. In line with these changes, Ford has also dialed back some of its EV investments and postponed certain models as it focuses on expanding its hybrid offerings.
