Ford's all-electric Mustang Mach-E is coming to India by 2021
Ford's first-ever all-electric Mustang model, the Mach-E, set to be released in the US next year, will arrive in India as well. According to Autocar, the flagship EV will be launched in the country by 2021 as a Completely Built Unit. The company has announced a slew of Mach-E models, but it's unclear as to which variants will hit the Indian roads.
Mach-E will rival the likes of Audi e-tron, Jaguar I-Pace
Considering the Mach-E will arrive sometime by 2021, it'll have to beat big names to establish itself in India's EV market that's picking up pace. Audi's e-tron will be launched by early next year while Jaguar's I-Pace is also slated to go official in 2020. Ford will also face competition from affordable options like Hyundai's Kona Electric and MG ZS.
Meanwhile, here's recalling Ford Mustang Mach-E
As far as its specifications are concerned, the Mach-E retains the iconic design and styling of the regular Mustang sports coupe with a long hood, rear haunch design, sleek LED headlights, and the signature tri-bar taillamps. However, since it has SUV-size proportions, you get a higher boot space of 821 liters, a 100-liter washable front storage, and a panoramic roof on the limited-edition model.
Inside the cabin
The all-electric pony features premium upholstery and a hi-tech cabin. You get heated front row seats and steering wheel, Bang & Olufsen speakers, a wireless charging pad, a 10.2-inch digital cluster, and a 15.5-inch touchscreen SYNC communications and entertainment system. With FordPass, you can also use your phone as a keyfob to unlock and lock doors, engage with the remote start feature, and more.
Power and performance
The Mach-E range has five models: Select, Premium, California Route 1, First Edition, and GT. The entry-level model with a single motor rear-wheel-drive powertrain is offered with a 75kWh battery and 258hp motor combination or a 99kWh battery and 289hp motor. Both the setups churn out 416Nm of torque and offer an estimated range of around 450km and 595km, respectively.
There is also a twin-motor AWD model as well
Ford will also offer a faster, twin-motor, AWD (all-wheel-drive) version that will pack either a 75kWh battery and 258hp motor or a 99kWh and 337hp combination. These setups will produce 582Nm of maximum torque along with an estimated range of 419km and 540km, respectively.
In the US, Mach-E will start at around $43,895
The Mach-E will be available in the US next year. However, some models like the Select and California Route 1 will arrive in early 2021. As for pricing, it will start at around $43,895 (Rs. 31.50 lakh) and go upto $60,500 (Rs. 43.41 lakh). In India, the EV will bear a higher price tag, given the higher import duties on CBUs.
