BYD Seal electric sedan receives over 1,000 bookings in India
Chinese automaker BYD has reported over 1,000 bookings for its all-electric sedan, the Seal, in India. The vehicle was launched in March this year and started receiving bookings from late February. The popularity of the Seal among Indian buyers can be attributed to its aggressive pricing, appealing design, and efficient powertrain options. This milestone was achieved within three months since the order books opened for the capable EV.
BYD Seal: Variants and unique features
The BYD Seal is available in three variants: Dynamic, Premium, and Performance. Each variant comes with unique features and specifications. The top-spec Performance trim includes a rotatable 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, all-digital driver's display, ventilated and heated front seats, powered front-row seats, as well as dual-zone climate control. It also provides a 360-degree surround camera, wireless smartphone connectivity, and Level 2 ADAS suite for enhanced safety.
BYD Seal: Powertrain and battery options
The BYD Seal offers two battery pack options - a 61.44kWh unit for the Dynamic variant and an 82.56kWh unit for both the Premium and Performance variants. The car is claimed to deliver an ARAI-certified range of up to 650km on a single charge. The Dynamic trim comes with a 201hp electric motor, the Premium trim features a stronger 308hp unit, while the top-spec Performance trim boasts a dual-motor setup delivering a combined output of 523hp.
Pricing and additional benefits of BYD Seal
The price of the BYD Seal ranges from ₹41 lakh to ₹53 lakh (ex-showroom), making it BYD's most expensive EV in India. Despite its high price tag, it notably undercuts its nearest competitor - the BMW i4. For bookings made before April 1, BYD offered several benefits including a home charger and installation service, portable charging box, mobile power supply unit, roadside assistance for six years and one complimentary inspection service.
BYD seal's warranty and market position
BYD provides an eight-year or up to 1.6 lakh kilometer warranty on the battery and an eight-year or up to 1.5 lakh kilometer warranty on the motor and motor controller for the Seal EV. Currently, there is no direct rival for the BYD Seal in the Indian market. The advanced features and performance capabilities of this electric sedan continue to attract customers in India.
