BS6-compliant Hyundai Elantra (diesel) announced: Details here
In an unexpected move, Hyundai India has revealed the key specifications and features of the upcoming BS6 Hyundai Elantra (diesel). The sedan is powered by a 1.5-liter diesel engine and shares its design as well as interiors with the petrol-based model. To recall, the BS6-compliant petrol-powered version of the Elantra was launched in October last year. Here are more details.
A look at the Hyundai Elantra (diesel)
The diesel-based version of the Elantra looks similar to its petrol counterpart. The car comes with an angular-looking front profile featuring a hexagonal grille, a muscular front bonnet, and triangular LED headlamps as well as fog lamp housings. The sedan also gets an attractive side profile with chrome highlights around the windows, indicator-mounted ORVMs, and blacked-out B-pillars.
Inside the cabin
Much like the petrol model, the diesel-powered Elantra sports a five-seater dual-tone cabin with ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, and an electric sunroof. The car houses a touchscreen infotainment panel with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support; it also comes with Blue Link connected car technology. Moreover, it retains all the safety features we saw on the petrol-powered Elantra.
Power and performance
The Hyundai Elantra (diesel) draws power from a BS6-compliant 1.5-liter engine that comes mated to either a 6-speed manual gearbox or an optional automatic transmission. This motor is capable of producing 112bhp of maximum power and 250Nm of peak torque.
Finally, what about pricing and availability?
Hyundai will reveal the pricing and availability details of the diesel-powered Elantra at the launch event itself, which is likely to happen once the COVID-19 pandemic situation comes under control. However, considering the petrol-based model starts at Rs. 15.89 lakh, the diesel-powered variant is likely to arrive at around Rs. 17 lakh.
