    What's the story

To meet the upcoming emission norms, Japanese automaker Yamaha has launched the BS6-compliant variants of the FZ-FI and FZS-FI in India.

The new motorcycles carry a premium of up to Rs. 2,600 over their respective outgoing models.

Notably, the FZS-FI model has also received a minor cosmetic update in the form of two new color options.

    Here's our roundup.

    Design

A look at both the motorcycles

The updated models of both Yamaha FZ-FI and FZS-FI look similar to their respective outgoing variants.

They feature a naked street design with a muscular looking fuel tank, single-piece two-level seat, a fully-digital LCD instrument cluster, and blacked-out alloy wheels.

Apart from that, the FZS-FI motorcycle has also received two new color options: Metallic Red and Darknight Black.

    Internals

    Power and performance

Both Yamaha FZ-FI and FZS-FI are powered by a BS6-compliant 149cc air-cooled engine, which is capable of producing 12.4PS of power at 7,250rpm and 13.6Nm of peak torque at 5,500rpm.

The motorcycles produce 0.8PS less power and 0.8Nm more torque than their respective outgoing models.

The transmission duties on both bikes are handled by a 5-speed manual gearbox.

    Safety

Yamaha FZ-FI and FZS-FI: On the road

In the braking department, both FZ-FI and FZS-FI motorcycles come equipped with disc brakes on both the front and rear wheels. The company is also offering single-channel ABS for improved road handling.

Further, the motorcycles house telescopic forks on the front and a swingarm type mono-shock unit on the rear to handle suspension duties.

    Pricing

And, here's a look at the prices

The Yamaha FZ-FI and FZS-FI bikes are priced at Rs. 99,200 and Rs. 1,01,200, respectively, which is Rs. 2,500 and Rs. 2,600 more than the respective outgoing models.

Moreover, the new Darknight color variant of the FZS-FI is Rs. 1,500 costlier than the standard variant and it costs Rs. 1,02,700.
