2020 BMW S 1000 XR superbike unveiled at EICMA show
German automaker BMW has unveiled the 2020 edition of its popular sports bike, the S 1000 XR, at the 2019 EICMA show. The new motorcycle comes with a bunch of design as well as feature updates and produces more power than the outgoing variant. The liter-class tourer is likely to hit the Indian roads next year. BMW S 1000 XR: At a glance
The updated S 1000 XR features a fully-faired design with a revised headlamp cluster, a redesigned mainframe to offer a more sportier look, and slightly tweaked ergonomics for better comfort. The motorcycle is 10kg lighter than the outgoing model and features a 6.5-inch fully digital instrument cluster with Bluetooth connectivity. It also gets an all-LED lighting setup for headlamp, turn indicators, and taillights.
Power and performance
The 2020 BMW S 1000 XR is powered by a Euro-V/BS6-compliant 999cc liquid-cooled engine. The unit is capable of producing 165bhp of maximum power at 11,000rpm and 114Nm of peak torque at 9,250rpm. The transmission duties on the motorcycle are handled by a 6-speed manual gearbox.
What about safety and suspension setup?
The BMW S 1000 XR comes equipped with disc brakes on both wheels along with dual-channel ABS as standard. The motorcycle also gets several electronic riding aids including wheelie control, Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), ABS Pro, hill-start control, and engine drag torque control (MSR). Moreover, the suspension duties are taken care by company's Dynamic ESA (Electronic Suspension Adjustment) system.
And, when will it come to India?
BMW S 1000 XR is likely to be launched in global markets by the end of this year, followed by an Indian launch sometime in 2020. As for the pocket pinch, it will be priced more than the existing model, which costs Rs. 17.65 lakh in the country. As they say, there is no minimum price for luxury!
